It's very different but I like it all the same.

A short post on the second anniversary of Hafte (well, second anniversary + two days). Since the beginning of this year I’ve been writing a new newsletter called Signpost. I’m not writing it on Substack because as great as it is, I wanted to try out Beehiiv.

The newsletter is a lot more focused and weekly than Hafte. Which is great, because Hafte remains my experimental periodic space where I can write stuff that doesn’t fit in any pigeonhole. I love that about this place and will continue to write here, albeit sporadically.

But if you’re interested to see what I’m writing elsewhere, you can subscribe to Signpost (it’s free). The newsletter is a weekly analysis of the biggest news story of the week, from the perspectives of two different news media. For example, in the latest issue I analyse two opinion pieces published in the English language news media in China (China Daily and Global Times) about the still-unconfirmed TikTok ban in the United States and what it means.
